Artistically Incorrect: The Photographs and Sculpture of John Waters
Laumeier Sculpture Park Indoor Galleries

Internationally-acclaimed director, filmmaker, entertainer and artist John Waters brings his quirky insights to Laumeier for a show that promises to be nothing short of spectacular.

John Waters is most often recognized for his films. From his early underground cult classics to the latest iteration of Hairspray – a musical comedy based on a stage play that is based on his original 1988 film. Waters’ films are full of twists and quirks. Those same characteristics permeate his life and career. Since the early 1990s Waters has been making photo-based artwork, sculpture and installations. This work is just as edgy, informed and full of dark humor as his films and has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the world. In 2004, the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City presented a retrospective of his artwork.

In 2008, St. Louis will get more than a taste of this one-of-a-kind Renaissance man as Laumeier Sculpture Park will present a solo exhibition of over 60 works by Waters in the indoor galleries opening October 11, 2008.

Exhibition opening reception: October 11, 2008, 6–8 PM (Free)

Museum hours are: Tuesday-Friday 10:00 AM-5:00 PM and Saturday-Sunday 12:00 PM-5:00 PM (Free)

The Museum will be closed for the holidays December 24-26 and January 1.
