FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
Many people inquire about various programs, events and opportunities at Laumeier. Please review this page to find answers to Frequently Asked Questions or send us an e-mail with your additional question.
Q: Can I rent or reserve space at Laumeier for my wedding ceremony or event?
A: Laumeier Sculpture Park offers its fantastic facilities for rental by individuals, groups and corporations for wedding ceremonies, celebrations, reunions, picnics and similar affairs, in an effort to promote our mission. We strongly encourage users of the facilities to become members of the Park and further assist us in continuing our Education and Exhibition programming. If you're interested in having a private event at Laumeier visit our Event Rentals webpage where you can download the information packet or contact our event coordinator at info@laumeier.org or 314-615-5271.
Q: How do you pronounce Laumeier?
A: Laumeier often is mispronounced. Between a St. Louis street named Lohmeyer, and a downtown casino named Lumiére, there's no shortage of variations. The correct pronunciation is "Lau" (rhymes with "now") - "meier" (rhymes with "higher").
Laumeier is the family name of Henry and Matilda Laumeier who were the last owners and residents of the property where Laumeier sits today. Henry Laumeier's ancestors emigrated from Germany in the mid-19th century, therefore we use the traditional German pronunciation of his surname.
Q: How can I receive information regarding special events and exhibits?
A: Join the Laumeier family by becoming a member and receive advanced notification and special offers for our events. You can also join the Laumeier e-mail list by clicking here.
Q: Can I take photos or shoot video/film at Laumeier?
A: To protect the artwork on display and assure copyright protections to the artists we present, no photography or videography is allowed inside the Museum Indoor Galleries. Due to copyright restrictions, visitor safety and access concerns no commercial photography or videography is allowed on Laumeier property without permission. Personal photography not for publication is permitted. Inquiries can be directed to our Communications Department at 314-615-5277. View our Guidelines page for more information about your visit to Laumeier.
Q: Can I buy food or drink in the Park?
A: Laumeier is proud to have Delectable Dogs providing some delicious fare in the Park on June weekends in 2011. Offering Chicago Style Hot Dogs, Tamales, Nachos, Chips, Drinks and Freeze Pops, the hot dog cart will be set-up behind the Museum Building (weather permitting). You can find Devin behind the grill on Saturdays and Sundays in June (except June 18) from 10AM-2PM. Stop by for a delectable dog and enjoy your visit to Laumeier in style. Additionally, there are water fountains throughout the Park that are available seasonally (typically April through September). You are encouraged to bring a water bottle and welcome to picnic or visit a nearby restaurant.
Q: Does Laumeier accept submissions or proposals from artists?
A: Laumeier staff reviews submissions from artists, primarily for our summer Kranzberg Exhibition Series which features artists from the St. Louis region. For more information, please visit our Artist Submissions page.
Q: Are there any employment opportunities at Laumeier?
A: Laumeier has occasional full-time and part-time job openings as well as frequent opportunities for seasonal employment. For more information visit our Employment page. Additionally, there are many volunteer opportunities available with details on the Volunteers page.
