Jenny Holzer (1950 - )

Jenny Holzer was born in Gallipolis, Ohio in 1950. She received a BA from Ohio University, Athens in 1972, and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence in 1977. She has received many awards, including the Golden Lion from the Venice Biennale; the Skowhegan Medal; and the Diploma of Chevalier from the French government. She has been the subject of major one-person exhibitions at: the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin; the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; the Dia Art Foundation, New York; and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. In 1990, she was the first woman to represent the United States in the Venice Biennale.
