Poetry in Place: The Platforms, 1-3 PM
Laumeier Sculpture Park
From September 30 to October 16, Laumeier Sculpture Park presents a collection of poetry and sculptural happenings throughout the Park. A series of commissioned platforms created by six local artists will be available for use by the public and poets as forums for public expression. For seventeen days, these artist-created soapboxes will offer an engaging venue for art and discourse in a public park setting.
On October 1 and 8, St. Louis-based poets Julie Dill, Chris King, Christopher Parr, Stefene Russell and Buzz Spector will engage Park visitors in a dialogue about the issues of today. The poets will recite their works atop the six platforms and will encourage those in the audience and other visitors to do the same throughout the installation allowing for a diversity of perspectives and creative content to be aired. [free]
| From September 30 through October 16, 2011, the American Arts Experience – St. Louis will fill concert halls, museums, theaters, and universities in the St. Louis area with American music, theater, dance and the visual arts. Visit www.AmericanArtsSTL.org for more information. |

Woodland Rescue Volunteer Project, 9 AM-1 PM
Nature Trails
We need your time and energy for Laumeier’s honeysuckle removal campaign. St. Louis County Parks, The Missouri Department of Conservation, the U.S. Forest Service and The Nature Conservancy agree: non-native bush honeysuckle displaces native shrubs, limits tree regeneration, depletes the soil of moisture and nutrients and releases toxins detrimental to our native Missouri plants. Your work will contribute directly to the livelihood of Laumeier’s woodlands. Contact Julia via e-mail or 314-615-5271 for more information and to sign-up. [volunteer registration requested]
