Laumeier Sculpture Park Volunteer Opportunities
DOCENT (teacher)
Laumeier’s docents are responsible for instructing educational programs and giving tours to the public, school groups, scout troops, community and civic organizations. In addition, Docents assist the Education department by helping with various projects, including participating in special events, artists’ openings, and day-to-day happenings in the park and galleries. Laumeier Sculpture Park docents perform one of the most significant and influential functions in the museum: introducing and deepening the experience of the exhibitions for tour groups of all ages. Docent-led tours provide a stimulating experience for both visitors and docents, and are an essential part of the museum’s education program. Docents are the public face of the Museum and have the special opportunity to share not only knowledge but also an enthusiasm for opening up a world of art and nature, helping visitors learn by looking, and encouraging visitors to become life long museum enthusiasts.
