Jenny Holzer, Ten plaques from the Living Series, 1980-82

Jenny Holzer is widely known for her thought-provoking and ambiguous texts. Her use of mass media outlets range from street posters to billboards to LED signs and television commercials. Holzer’s ten Untitled plaques from the series Living, 1980-1982, are cast bronze signs, secured to areas around the Museum building. Everyday thoughts and phrases are written in a modest voice, a contradiction to their stylistic presentation as institutional signage, while attached to a mansion turn museum and read with an air of authority.
