Kelly Jimenez & Alejandro Franco
Visual artists & 2021 Community Artists In Residence at Laumeier Sculpture Park
Kelly Jimenez and Alejandro Franco are both Colombian artists whose primary discipline is the use of discarded materials to create highly crafted works of art. They have been collaborating for the past three years, creating a variety of works for different venues. Their work is often in the form of stop motion animation, photography, sculptures, and lately, they have been fully focused in the creation of stained glass imagery made out of single-use plastic.
Jimenez and Franco were 2021 Community Artists In Residence at Laumeier. During their residency, the pair displayed stained glass imagery and helped visitors create their own upcycled stained glass-inspired artworks at a Discover Laumeier event, discussed their environmentally-friendly art practices during a virtual Conversation Series, and created an immersive light installation at Laumeier After Dark.
