ART, NATURE, + WELLNESS PROGRAMS

Laumeier Sculpture Park encourages visitors to engage in experiences of art and nature and uncover the health and wellness benefits provided by these experiences.

Whether it’s the calming effects of being in nature, movement for your body, or inspiration for healthy habits, we hope you will join us for these upcoming and ongoing programs.

ART & NATURE DAYS

Art & Nature Days offer hands-on art activities, engaging demonstrations, and seasonal experiences that invite visitors of all ages to explore the deep connections between art, nature, and community. These events encourage time spent in green spaces, which supports overall wellbeing, sparks creativity, and offers moments of joy and connection.

2026 Art & Nature Days are planned for February 7, April 18, and October 3. Presented in partnership with St. Louis County Parks and Recreation, these events coincide with Laumeier’s Begin Again: 50 Years and Counting exhibition series, celebrating half a century of creative discovery, nature appreciation, and community.

WALKING TOURS and GUIDED HIKES

Experience artwork in the great outdoors and deepen your connection to nature and to our five senses. Join us for our walking tours—each tour focuses on a different theme and area of the Park. Walking Tours and Guided Hikes are sponsored by St. Louis County Parks.

Level 1  / This tour includes both flat surfaces and some paved trails. The group will stay in proximity to resting areas and accessibility ramps.

Level 2 / This tour includes both paved trails and unpaved trails. The group will travel farther from resting areas and parking areas.

Level 3 / This tour includes unpaved surfaces, some slopes and narrow trails. Participants can expect to be in proximity to wildlife and some foliage. Proper footwear is strongly recommended.

GUIDED HIKE / Nest Quest!

Have you ever wondered where your favorite forest critter sleeps at night? On this guided hike, we’ll slow down, look up, and explore the hidden homes tucked throughout the Park’s Art Hike Trail! Together, we’ll learn how to search for nests both high up in the trees and those hiding below our feet through respectful, curious observation. Families and friends will discover the Park from a new perspective, like true nature explorers! Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear.

Saturday, March 7 / 10 a.m. / Free, registration required / Level 3

GUIDED HIKE / Spring Migration Bird Walk

Start your Saturday morning as migrating birds return, pass through, and fill the landscape with the song—perhaps even pausing to take in the art around them, just like we are! Learn how to spot birds by sight and sound while exploring why Laumeier’s trees and open spaces are an important stop along their journey over the Mississippi Flyover. Families and friends will experience the Park through a seasonal lens while gaining a deeper appreciation for the rhythms of nature. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear.

Saturday, April 18 / 9 a.m. / Free, registration required / Level 3

WALKING TOUR / Arbor Day Appreciation Tree Tour

Celebrate Arbor Day by slowing down and spending time with the trees that shape Laumeier’s landscape with local arborist, Michael Garrett. Explore the Park’s open grounds while learning about different bark textures and newly budding leaves that emerge in the spring. Together, we'll observe how trees support wildlife and contribute to the park's art and ecology, developing a deeper appreciation for the vital role trees play in our daily lives. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear.

Saturday, April 25 / 10 a.m. / $5, registration required / Level 3

WALKING TOUR / Stroller Tour

Stroll up to the Park for a day filled with baby-friendly sculpture exploration! Connect with other caregivers while enjoying a guided walk with your young parkgoers through Laumeier Sculpture Park. This tour offers a chance to engage with art and nature while staying active with your family.

Participants are advised to dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes for walking on uneven pathways. Please note, strollers are not provided. Tour meets in the Public Plaza outside the Adam Aronson Fine Arts Center.

Thursday, May 21 / 10 a.m. / FREE, reservation required / Level 1

MINDFULNESS & MUD DAY RETREAT

A nature-inspired retreat for grounding, creating, and connection.

Breathe in the forest air. Feel the earth in your hands. Slow down with a circle of like-hearted people. Join us for a calming and creative day at Laumeier Sculpture Park where art, nature, and wellness meet. Step outside the rush of daily life and into a grounded rhythm of movement, breath, stillness, and clay. Throughout the day, you’ll be guided through gentle practices and activities that connect you with your body, your creativity, and the people around you. Move mindfully beneath the trees, sip warm herbal tea, share stories, and get your hands messy on the potter’s wheel. Come solo or with a friend− this is a welcoming space to slow down, make something with your hands, and reconnect with your inner child.

Sunday, April 26, 10 – 3 p.m. / Ages 18+ / $70

ONGOING PROGRAMS:

MINDFUL REMINDERS

Placed throughout the Park, you will find nine Mindful Reminders that encourage you to search, pause, reflect and practice mindfulness techniques that can contribute to a positive sense of well-being. Bring awareness to your presence on earth in each unique space with both your mind and your body.

What is Mindfulness? It is the ability to be fully present, aware of where you are and what you are doing.  We are often preoccupied with thoughts and anxieties that are not actually connected to our immediate environment. Allow the natural environment and the artistic creations to impact and speak to you, and savor the experience. Practice gratitude and appreciation.

Mindful Reminders locations:

  • Paved Path near the center of the Park

  • Dan Graham, Triangular Bridge Over Water, 1990

  • Michael Heizer, Compression Line, 1968

  • Jene Highstein, Ada’s Will, 1990

  • Richard Hunt, Linked Forms, 1999

  • Alexander Liberman, The Way, 1972–80

  • Donald Lipski, Ball? Ball! Wall? Wall!, 1994

  • Mark Mennin, Cores for Laumeier, 2003

  • Trail entrance by the lower parking lot

The Mindful Reminders project was created by Laura Peroutka Greenwood, Laumeier’s Art Therapy liaison in 2022.
